A great number of people, many of them Americans are looking of new methods to eliminate credit card debt. The sad reality is , getting rid of debt isn't a simple thing to do. This is particularly true of credit card dept as credit card companies are not often very accommodation to a consumer who needs help.

There are some well known practices, but most only work theoretically, and aren't actually workable in real life. So, let me show you a couple of those techniques for people trying to eliminate credit card debt we hear about so often and I'll point out where they fail us.

Work within a budget and pay off that debt! So that sounds great, but how does it work? Well, the reality of the situation is this: You can't budget what you don't have. So many people are over their heads in debt and due to the present economy they have even less money than a year ago. So if you start out with a deficit and then reduce the amount of money coming in you're not going to get too far with that budgeting idea.

Don't use credit cards at all. First of all, it's probably too late, secondly, let's remember most people are robbing Peter to pay Paul. It's really shocking to think how many people really are dependent on their credit cards to pay for the expenses of daily living. It's really depressing when you think about it, these aren't people blowing money on jewelry and toys. These people are using credit cards to keep the lights on and the house warm.

You can make a deal with your credit card company. Can I just say this?: YEAH RIGHT! If you think this is going to work you've never called a card company to tell them you have a problem those organizations are heartless at best. A credit card company doesn't care if you're sick or unemployed, or if your life is in turmoil and you need a little space to get back on top. The only thing they're interested in is the money you owe them, and if you don't come up with it they can get downright vicious.

If you really examine the situation you'll find that those traditional talking points aren't going to work to eliminate credit card debt in this day and age. Now that we're all already in the financial soup so to speak, budgeting and avoiding credit card use are just not in the cards for most people who have a debt issue.

There is a ray of light in all these clouds though, third parties can negotiate with your creditors and eliminate credit card debt. The reason why it works takes a bit of understanding.

You see, a lot of the third party debt negotiators are not for profit organizations. That means they're "charitable" organizations. In the case that they do your negotiating for you the credit card companies can use any break they give you as a big fat tax write-off. In that case you may be able to find a way to eliminate your credit card debt since they're not dealing with you. See you can't offer them any way to recoup what you can't pay, while if you use a 501(c)3 (charitable)organization to negotiate on your behalf, they get the write off, which they like a whole lot better than the nothing they get out of the individual when they make a concession.

Much of the time consumer debt reduction involves lowering the amount of interest paid on your outstanding balance. In some cases you may even be able to get a percentage rate of zero! Add to that the possibility that they'll structure a fresh payment plan with your actual income in mind.

It used to be that you had to battle the credit card companies alone if you wanted to eliminate credit card debt. Now, in the great recession, an increasing number of organizations are coming forward to assist consumers in getting their financial feet back under them. When you are overwhelmed the most important thing you can do is to get help if you can, that's the responsible way to deal with financial problems. Not for profit debt negotiators can really help you on your road to eliminate credit card debt.
